Key Chaperone & Head of Children & Safeguarding - Head of Department

Additional Compensation: This role will require work on location around the UK, and full expenses will be provided on top of hotel accommodation.
Particulars:
We are looking for an energetic and self motivated Key Chaperone to join 'Dreams of an Eleven Year Old Witch', our upcoming feature film about the true story of Alice Glaston, the youngest person ever legally executed in English history. The Key Chaperone will act in the capacity of a HOD (Head of Department), and will report to our Associate Producers team. They will manage and direct a team of professional children's chaperones to supervise and ensure the well being of our child cast members and background artists. For the film, we will be employing the services of two key child roles (Alice and Mary), plus three minor child roles, plus our 'Little Wenlock Children' background artists. The Key Chaperone will have a proven track record as a professional chaperone for commercial film, television and/or theatre productions in the UK, and will be able to demonstrate their competency leading a team.
As well as managing the Chaperone team, they will also act as Head of Children, and will ensure that call sheets for children meet the criteria as directed by UK Children in Entertainment laws, as well as managing the working times of child cast members, ensuring that proper and legal breaks are provided. They will also manage our Set Tutors for Alice and Mary whom we are legally required to provide on set schooling for.
They will act and train (at our cost) as a Designated Safeguarding Officer, and report to the producers in relation to the safety and well being of child performers (actor and extra).
Duties include:
- Manage a team of up to 4 chaperone and one set tutor,
- Act as the production DSO,
- Ensure that the well being of child cast members is met,
- Work with our producers to ensure that disruption to child cast members (in particular Alice and Mary) is minimal and that education is not adversely affected as a result of their participation in the film,
- Work with producers and AD's to ensure Child working times are lawful and that adequate breaks are provided
- Complete administrative tasks including weekly reports for the producers in view of children's welfare
- Support the DSO at Vitality Entertainment Group in the delivery of safeguarding training for members of the production team, in particular those with access to Child cast members such as HMUA's,
- Act as Chaperone for Alice, Mary or other member's of the children's cast as is operationally required.
Person Spec:
- Experience working in the capacity of a chaperone in the creative, cultural and entertainment sector is essential,
- Must have or be willing to obtain a DBS Check (at our cost),
- Must have a history of safeguarding training, and willing to participate in external and internal training + Designated Officer training (at our cost),
- A proven track record managing children workforce staff is desirable,
- Experience working on a commercial film set is desirable,
- Competent using word and excel,
- Excellent telephone manner,
- An understanding of the UK national curriculum is desirable,
